Called a few fishing friends and set up a Sunday outing. Not much happening in the fish counts but the weather was nice enough to justify going out. Tim and Al of the MDRAnglers fishign club went with me.
Need to get the fishing action of the boat tuned in. Turns out a 1/2 scoop of bait split evenly into the two bait bags works very well for 3 guys fishing. The rod holders were full of rods, gaff and net. So I think she has just enough rod holders. (Had taken 2 off to accommodate the new LifeSling man overboard thing.)
We fished under sunny skis and on nice water most of the day. In the morning we found some bait action off of Big Rock in Malibu but we could not find out what was pushing up the bait. We were not the only boat trying to find out if there was a predator under there somewhere. Nothing. We drifted the usual spots. Nothing.
So as the wind came up late in the day we got our chance to test the anchor. We successfully put down and retrieved several times. I learned a bit more about the functioning of the system. Someday when I get a new windlass that will get changed around. Not a problem to stack the chain on the deck and then put it in the hold as a second step, just no the best.
We set up on a nice big rock outcropping at 100 feet of water off of Wilshire. We finally caught some stuff. Tim got the fish of the day and the photo of the day.
Nice sand bass. Released. Both of them have a "Beer Me" smile. Or is it "Dude"?
Thanks Tim and Al. Good day on the water. Good fun and good company.
Fish Wish Granted. We had fun.
