Doggie good times

An furry addition to our family a few months back... A big German Shepherd doggie.

Trish named him Winzer. She had large dogs back when she was young and knows all the right things to do. Training and stuff is going along.

He even goes boating with us. I put him in a life jacket when on the docks or in the boat. Mostly I want the handle for retrieving the big wet beast should he go in (again).

Many of you had seen the Xmas photo of us with the dog.

Here is Trish with Winzer at the Santa Monica Airport Dog Park. It is a fun and clean place full of happy poochies running and playing. He loves to fetch and does retrieve the balls. Sometimes he outruns the other dogs to steal the ball that their owners throw. He he he.

Photo from my Q phone so quality is not the best. Sorry.

I also took a Video and am trying to learn how to use YouTube. Post a Comment requesting a link if you want to see it.

In Loving Memory of Kato our cat

Just a small family note... Our cat of many years has passed away Friday Jan 18th.

Old age and his time had come. Kato was at times a trouble maker but mostly, over the years we had him, his influences around the house have been to bring love and tenderness and a purr.

I will miss his morning conversation while I make coffee and he tells me to feed him or rubs my leg. He was talkative.

Ryan may not miss the little battles with cat hair on his clothing. But he will miss his "kitten" as he had taken to calling him over the last several years. Thomas frequently snuck Kato into his bed and was always a tender pet lover. Kato and Thomas had a very special relationship.

The loss has hit Trish very hard. We all miss him. Trish will miss the hugging of her kitty the most. Tears and sadness mark his passing. We did not have him euthanized but kept him home and administered to him as best we could. Kato passed away quietly on Friday night. He purred for us up until the end.

Back when OJ was in the middle of his word renowned murder trial... This cat showed up in our back yard and started to sponge off of us. So of course I named him after Kato Kaitlen the permanent house guest OJ had in his back yard. Kato had his 15 minutes of fame. Kato our cat had approx. 15 years of our love.

He used to nap in my home office and keep me company. He roamed the neighborhood like a tiger.

Even the day before he passed he traveled to a neighbors house and came back hours later when called. Trish hugged him up when she found him sitting at the front door waiting to come in.

Fishing Dec. 17th 2007 in Santa Monica Bay

Called a few fishing friends and set up a Sunday outing. Not much happening in the fish counts but the weather was nice enough to justify going out. Tim and Al of the MDRAnglers fishign club went with me.

Need to get the fishing action of the boat tuned in. Turns out a 1/2 scoop of bait split evenly into the two bait bags works very well for 3 guys fishing. The rod holders were full of rods, gaff and net. So I think she has just enough rod holders. (Had taken 2 off to accommodate the new LifeSling man overboard thing.)

We fished under sunny skis and on nice water most of the day. In the morning we found some bait action off of Big Rock in Malibu but we could not find out what was pushing up the bait. We were not the only boat trying to find out if there was a predator under there somewhere. Nothing. We drifted the usual spots. Nothing.

So as the wind came up late in the day we got our chance to test the anchor. We successfully put down and retrieved several times. I learned a bit more about the functioning of the system. Someday when I get a new windlass that will get changed around. Not a problem to stack the chain on the deck and then put it in the hold as a second step, just no the best.

We set up on a nice big rock outcropping at 100 feet of water off of Wilshire. We finally caught some stuff. Tim got the fish of the day and the photo of the day.
2007-Tim
Nice sand bass. Released. Both of them have a "Beer Me" smile. Or is it "Dude"?

Thanks Tim and Al. Good day on the water. Good fun and good company.

Fish Wish Granted. We had fun.

A day fishing on Sunday

Took three kids and two dads out for a little fishing on Sunday. The
fishing had been very slow for Santa Monica Bay. But we found some
fish and my son, Ryan, brought up a very nice 45+ lb Black Sea Bass.
On the same rod & reel that he won in the Halibut Derby! Ryan fought
the beast to the surface after a lot of work using 20# line on a
spinning rig. Lots of perseverance form Ryan and a bit of boat
maneuvering won out. What a beautiful sight!

We were in 110 feet on the upside of "The pipe" just south of MDR. We
had good marks on the meter. A big Sculpin too.

The boat ran fine. The dads got out-fished by the boys. Ouch. (in a good way) :-)

A fine day on the water. Keith <"><

Boating trips

I'm pleased to say I got some time in on the water.

Weekend to the Island on Wavelength for the Calico tournament.

Weekend on the It'll Do to Cat Harbor with family for the Labor Day Cruise.

Weekend on the water marlin hunting out of San Diego on the Non-Taxing. Looking the water over hard but not finding. Shoulda' Coulda' Woulda' done the Tuna on the outside butterfly but CJL was looking for First Marlin flag and bragging rights. We found a nice Hammerhead and some juicy 40# Humboldt Squid. Some fun.

Weekend on the Clicker for the KHMT out of Avalon.

Weekend on the It'll Do to Avalon for the family to visit the lovely town and me to check out the boat. We had a nice mooring near Disconso beach. My little 30 ft boat looked nice on the water. Happy Place. Photo of the boat on mooring W 12 using my cell phone. Not bad.

More soon. Keith L.

Nice progress

Thomas and I drove the boat into our slip on one engine. Fun. A challenge. But we did it!

The Bridge is looking sharp. She is happy in her Slip. The Radar Arch is spiffy with it's new paint.

We have cleaned this and that. I'm into the Wires now. The mechanic is waiting on a Cummins part and that will get the boat back to usability soon enough to go Marlin Fishing. Maybe in time for the Aug. 31 Cruise to Cat Harbor. Simple Goal.

Fish Wish. Take Family to Catalina for Labor Day weekend, August 31 to Sept 3.

Boat under repair update

Hi Just a FYI to keep a current post.

The boat is out of the boat yard. At the yard we changed all the near the water line drain thrugh hulls to Bronze. And removed two below water line items. And installed a new pick up for a future bait tank pick up. And installed a state of the art transducer for the new fish finder. Then we gave her a very good bottom paint and a new rich blue boot stripe just above the water line.

Now that she is back in the slip the painting of the bridge and the radar arch is coming to completion. The part the we look at while driving the boat will look good.

So first we fixed all the stuff on the bottom. Then starting at the top and working our way down we are making her look good.

More later. Keith <"><

Went Fishing - Caught a fish

Hi all,

Went fishing today. Caught a Fish. A nice fish.

Turned out to be a 24.1 lb halibut. The best fish of the day for the New Del Mar on the morning run.

Wife has friends visiting and I took their son and his Dad out on the New Del Mar for a little local fishing action.

Som Berracuda came in and some bass. But this Halibut outclassed all the other fish for the Jackpot.

Nice. Thanks to the Marina Del Rey Sportfishing guys.

Had some fun. :-)
